URL slug generator
Paste one title per line and get one slug per line: lower-case, without accents or punctuation, with words joined by hyphens. Some tools call this a permalink generator.
Type or paste a title to see its slug.
Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Notable.
How it works
- Accented letters become their plain forms (ã becomes a, ß becomes ss, & becomes and). Anything else that is not a letter or a digit becomes a separator, and repeated separators are collapsed.
- The maximum length cuts after the last whole word that fits, so a slug never ends mid-word. A single word longer than the limit is the only exception.
- Stop-word removal uses a short list of English, Portuguese and Spanish words such as the, de and para. A title made of nothing but stop words keeps them. Turning off numbers removes standalone numbers only, so mp3 stays mp3.
The background
Hyphens, not underscores
Google recommends hyphens between the words in a URL, because it reads them as spaces. Underscores join words together, so seo_tools can be read as one word. Use underscores only if the rest of your site already does.
Short and descriptive
A slug shows people what a page is about before they click, in search results and in shared links. Keep the words that describe the page, and leave out dates and numbers that will go out of date.
Changing a published slug
Changing the address of a published page breaks every link to it unless you add a permanent (301) redirect from the old address. Settle the slug before you publish.
